Naysayer Response

Later in the story shows that her views fully changed as she got older. Chen said, “Today, Megan and Grace’s only connection to Westboro is virtual. Although Phelps-Roper no longer believes that the Bible is the word of God, she still reads it to try and find scriptural arguments that could  encourage Westboro to take a more humane approach to the world. Sometimes she’ll tweet passages, knowing that church members will see them.” This shows that after getting different perspectives, she is on the other side. When she was young, she trusted everything her family told her and would argue for why her family was correct. She would tell people they should also have the same beliefs because she thought they were correct. Now, she looks for why the church is wrong and will argue for why they should change what they do.  It is true that Megan may have changed even if she never used social media and twitter as she grew up and saw how extreme her family’s views were, but without getting into debates and using twitter, it is also likely that she would have only listened to her family. As someone grows up constantly hearing something, it becomes harder to change as you get older. This could be why children have an easier time changing their views compared to adults.
