About Me

My name is Heather Martin and this is my first year at UNE. I am majoring in animal behavior.
Growing up, I have always loved animals and in March of 2021, I started fostering dogs with The Student Rescue Project. The Student Rescue Project was a foster-based rescue that was run by my dad’s friend. This meant the dogs did not go in shelters, but instead, the rescue relied on fosters to keep the dogs until they went to their new homes. They rescued dogs from Puerto Rico because there are so many stray dogs on the street there. We would pick them up from the airport and keep them at our house until they had a home they could go to. I really liked taking care of these dogs and it taught me so many new things. These dogs are the reason that I majored in animal behavior. I want to be able to work with dogs as my job.
