Be able to critique their own and others’ work by emphasizing global revision early in the writing process and local revision later in the process.

Framing statement: I never did peer review in high school, so doing it in college was very new and challenging for me. The hardest part for me while giving comments during peer review was finding places to add comments and writing them in a way that my partner could understand it. The peer review guideline sheets we were given helped a lot to go through and find places to make comments. While I think I did better with peer review from the first essay to the last, I think I still could have made more comments and more specific comments for my partner. Peer review is an important step in writing because it is useful to be given comments by someone who has not read your essay before. While writing my draft, there are parts that make sense to me, but someone else may not think I explained it enough. Having someone else can point out a lot of things that I would not have seen, which will make the essay stronger.

Work sample 1:

Analysis: This was my end comment that I left for Melonie. I explained what I thought was her claim or main idea because if I do not have the right idea, it shows that the claim should be a little more specific or identifiable. I explained something that I liked and something specific that I think could be improved.

Work sample 2:

Analysis: Melanie left me this comment telling me that the sentence highlighted did not make sense. I agree because when I read it out loud, the sentence was not worded right. When I was writing it and reading it in my head, it made sense, but when I read it out loud, it did not. This comment allowed me to change the words around so it became more clear and the reader can understand it easier.
