While it is good to have empathy, there can be some disadvantages to it that can lead to being bad. If you have too much empathy, you may not actually do what is best for someone else. Bloom gives the example, “Any good parent, for instance, often has to make a child do something… that causes the child immediate unhappiness but is better for him or her in the future: Do your homework, eat your vegetables, go to bed at a reasonable hour” (5). The example Bloom gives shows that even though it may make the child unhappy temporarily, it is still best for the child for the future. If you have too much empathy, it will be hard for you to make the child sad, even temporarily, but it is still important that the child is able to have good habits in the future. In one way, it seems like you are not showing empathy because you are making the child unhappy, but creating good habits for the child will still make them happier in the future. 

Our own experiences are what make up our beliefs and because everyone has completely different experiences, everyone is going to have different thoughts. As a student, I do not have the same experiences as adults. This makes it very hard to think of anything as if I was in their place. If I can relate to the person and had a similar experience, then it is easier to understand what they could be going through and empathize with them, but you will still see it your own way. DFW says, “There is no experience you have had that you are not the absolute center of. The world as you experience it is there in front of YOU or behind YOU, to the left or right of YOU, on YOUR TV or YOUR monitor. And so on” (2). This idea means everywhere you are, humans are always seeing the world from their own perspective. This also stops someone from thinking of things how other people think of them. 

I often use and or also, but I do not use more complex words. I can add more words like on the other hand or in contrast to smooth sentences out. I also used that I do not use many transition words and I do not really have words that lead 1 sentence to the next. I can also change the word “this” in the last sentence to “Seeing the world from your own perspective”
